The Great Laach near Pulheim has been protected as a nature reserve since 1999 and is part of the recreational area Stöcheimer Hof. It represents the relic of an old Rhine loop and today the natural mouth area of the Pulheimer Bach, which infiltrates here with the crossing into the lower terrace of the Altrhein in well-drained soil layers. The seepage water of the Pulheim stream flows as groundwater to the waterworks Weiler, where it arrives after nine to twelve years.
