Waterfowl, including herons, ducks, and sometimes even kingfishers, can be found here, as can anglers who pursue their hobby with a valid fishing license – catchable species include carp, trout, perch, and whitefish.

A real highlight right on the shore is the family-run Seehotel am Stausee, which not only offers upscale accommodations but also boasts a wellness area, indoor pool, sauna, and lake views. Those who stop here can relax with a drink on the terrace after a tour around the lake or to nearby Gerolstein with its striking dolomite cliffs. Hiking and biking trails start directly at the lake – including the popular circular route via Müllenborn and the Rother Kopf, which offers fantastic views of the valley. The famous Eifelsteig trail also crosses not far from the lake, making it an ideal stopover on longer tours. Despite its tranquil location, the lake is easily accessible, parking is available, and the short climb from the center of Gerolstein is also easy to manage by bike.
