According to art historians, the church, which is dedicated to St. George, was built around 1230. It is therefore one of the oldest churches in the Ebersberg area. It was probably built to replace the previous church, a dilapidated wooden building. It is astonishing that there are two churches in the immediate vicinity, namely in Pullenhofen and Berghofen, that are about the same age. Since local nobles lived in all three villages, it is not entirely unreasonable to think that the construction of a stone church increased the reputation of a place and thus brought prestige to these local nobles.
