Top cycling routes to Elstertal Bridge Pirk

Tips

  • The imposing Elstertal Bridge is located in the middle of the Vogtland Elstertal on the Saxon-Bavarian border. The 60 meter high and 500 meter long granite structure is one of the largest stone arch bridges in Europe. The motorway bridge was not completed until three years after reunification, although construction began as early as 1938. The war and later the division of Germany stood in the way of completion, as the bridge was on the edge of the GDR's restricted border area.
