The chapel cemetery was first mentioned in 1348, when many Kissingers fell victim to the plague.[1] The Marienkapelle belonging to the cemetery was built around the same time (although it is uncertain whether the possible first mention of 1286 refers to the Marienkapelle or the Jakobuskirche[2]; the first reliable first mention of the Marienkapelle also dates from 1348[2 ]).

The cemetery's first mortuary, which no longer exists, was built in 1841.[3]

The sandstone crucifix with a depiction of Mater Dolorosa next to the Lady Chapel was made in the 18th century.[4][5]

In 1855 the cemetery was expanded for the first time
