Dommelrode Castle, or De Bocht, is a castle located directly south of the center of Sint-Oedenrode. It is currently in use as a meeting location of the municipality of Meierijstad. De Bocht was originally a moated and fortified house from the sixteenth century. The current castle was largely built during a renovation in 1603. It is characterized by masonry with bacon layers and corner blocks of marlstone. Old cellars with barrel vaults can be found in the building. In 1678 the castle was known as the omwatert huys genaempt de Bocht. In 1716, De Bocht is described as a beautiful and well-situated castle with half of the lower house and half of the courtyard. In 1804, Dommelrode is described as a castle or huijs with all that belongs to it, courtyard, lower house, stables, lanes, wood washing, adjacent toul and groeslanden, called Dommelrode, located under the Heertgang the old freedom on the spot the Bogt. Under the management of the Veghel family De Kuijper, the castle was converted into a monastery. A chapel was built in 1856 and a rector's house followed in 1903. In 1954 the castle was bought by the municipality of Sint-Oedenrode, who established the town hall there. The monastery outbuildings were then demolished. The castle was restored in 1961-1963.
