Location: Southern Denmark, Denmark
The Damesten (also Dammesten) weighs over 1,000 tons, making it Denmark's largest boulder. It was first described in 1623 according to other sources in 1763. At that time only the top looked out of the ground. The geologist Johann Georg Forchhammer examined the stone from 1840 and had it exposed on one side up to the lower edge in 1843. The huge stone block made of granite was transported here from southern Sweden during the last Ice Age. Numerous myths and legends entwine around the ladies. There are some parking spaces at the roadside, tables and benches invite you to take a break in this spectacular location. geus.dk/udforsk-georien/ture-i-naturen/kaempesten/dammestenen
