Schlossplatz Wiesbaden

A truly beautiful square, formed by the town hall, the Hessian state parliament, the registry office, the market church, and a few other beautiful buildings.
The Schlossplatz is the heart of the city. In the basement of the town hall, the so-called "Ratskeller," is the "Andechser," a restaurant serving delicious Bavarian food and excellent beer.

Framed by the New Town Hall, the Hessian State Parliament and the Market Church. Very nice and clean place, but without nice seating.

The square has a special historical significance due to its more than 1200-year history of settlement. There was already a fortified place on its site in the Middle Ages: a settlement surrounded by walls and gate towers developed around a tower and was granted city rights before 1241. In keeping with its former name, the people of Wiesbaden still call the Schlossplatz "Marktplatz" today.
