You can see the traces of time on the Lanstrop egg. It is surrounded by greenery and offers a nice photo opportunity (and not just in the backlight).

The Lanstroper Ei is a water tower with steel K-truss and a steel container, since 1981 already as a water tower without filling and out of service.
This tower is visible from afar on a hill south of the A2 motorway in the north-east of Dortmund, in the Lanstrop district. The nickname derives from this location and the shape of the steel container, although technically the tower is in the Grevel district and the container is not actually egg-shaped either.

The giant egg, which once supplied the towns of Lanstrop, Derne, Mengede, Brambauer and parts of the city of Lünen as well as the surrounding collieries of Harpener Bergbau AG with Ruhr water, is enthroned on a strong steel pole and a square steel frame. With the construction of the ice in 1906, flushing toilets and taps found their way into the region. In addition, the tower offered a higher standard of hygiene and ensured consistent water pressure as well as an emergency supply in the event of a pipe burst between the pumping station and the egg. The water tower supplied the region with drinking water until 1980. Since its decommissioning - despite the fact that it is a listed building - rust has taken over the rulership of the egg and severely damaged it.
