Kämmerzell was first mentioned in history in 1150. According to oral tradition, Saint Godehard von Hildesheim held a baptism in Kämmerzell in 996. Because of this, a chapel was built in the middle of the street, so that the two lanes had to be led outside. In 1629 the chapel was replaced by a church.
