The church was completely restored in the period from 2007 to 2009, restoring the original state of the internal and external architecture, under the direction of the architect. Gianluca Ghedini.

The smooth facade houses the statues of Saints Philip and James the Minor, patron saints of Cortina d'Ampezzo (although it is portrayed with the iconographic characteristics of James the Greater, that of Compostela).

The interior has a single nave, with shallow niches; it is closed by the large presbytery (choir), illuminated by two large rectangular windows. It is enriched by the frescoes by Zeiler, which we will discuss below, and by the ceiling by Ghedina.

The basilica of Santi Filippo e Giacomo, dedicated to the patron saints of Cortina d'Ampezzo, was built between 1769 and 1775 on the site where two previous churches from the 13th and 16th centuries had arisen. It is located in the heart of the town, between the famous Corso Italia and Via del Mercato.

The interior reflects the typical eighteenth-century taste, elegant and rich, showy but without the excesses of the Baroque. The bell tower (el cianpanin) is very famous, the unmistakable symbol of Cortina d'Ampezzo. Built by the architect Silvestro Franceschi between 1852 and 1858 in place of a previous late sixteenth-century bell tower, it stands 65.8 meters high, in a sober, elegant and majestic style which, as the Ampezzo inhabitants say, is "neither Tyrolean nor Cadore".
