The Lahmeyer Bridge was originally a railway bridge, which joined the Frankfurt port railway with the Seckbach industrial area as part of the industrial railway Seckbach starting in 1913, crossing the tracks of the Frankfurt-Hanau railway line. Since the 1960s and 1970s, structural change and finally deindustrialisation led to the industrial railway losing its importance and finally being abandoned in the 1990s. Since then, the Lahmeyer Bridge is only a pedestrian bridge. Incidentally, the bridge is named after the engineering company Wilhelm Lahmeyer & Co., founded in 1890.

From the north you can approach the bridge on a ramp quite comfortably. On the south side unfortunately only a steep staircase with very narrow sliding ramps left and right.

The Lahmeyerbrücke is an important transport connection to reach Hanauer Landstraße on foot or by bike. However, the bridge is more than 100 years old and ailing. For this reason, the Office for Road Construction and Development (ASE) will build a new bridge, which is located in the immediate vicinity west of the old Lahmeyer Bridge. The bridge, like the old one, runs over the tracks of the port railway and is around 160 meters long. The new building is more robust and will be four meters wide. The bridge is also connected to Iselinstraße in the north and Hanauer Landstraße in the south via four-meter-wide access paths. A barrier-free connection to the bridge is a matter of course.Construction will start in May 2019 and the new bridge will open in late summer 2020. The old Lahmeyer Bridge can still be used during the construction period. It will not be dismantled until the new bridge is completed. If you want to use the bridge, you must use a signposted diversion north of the bridge during the entire construction period, as the direct route to the bridge is blocked due to construction work. In the meantime the new bridge is finished and the connections to the two ramps are made. Great: finally no longer carry the bike up the stairs.
