The geological organs were created near the small hamlet of Bossarts between Wolfertschwandern and Ottobeuren in the Lower Allgäu during the Günz glacial period around 600,000 years ago or later ice ages, e.g. B. the Mindel glaciation. In some places, carbonic acid rainwater has dissolved the limestone of the Ice Age gravel fields and thus formed the funnel-shaped tubes, some of which are up to 15 meters high. The name organ for this natural monument is derived from the tubes that line up like organ pipes.
