As the administrative center of the Bavarian Forest National Park and due to its geographical location at the park's starting point, the town of Grafenau truly is "The Gateway to the Wilderness." This symbolic gateway to the boundless forest wilderness of the national park was originally built for the 2014 State Garden Show in Deggendorf, but has now found a permanent home here at BÄREAL – the spa and adventure park in Grafenau – and is the venue for year-round programs centered around the motto "Let nature be nature."
