The sinuous Rhiw yr Ysgyfarnog escarpment is a superbly airy place to run. It runs arrow-straight to the south east from the minor summit of Duwynt, with gorgeous views back towards Pen y Fan. To the east, the scarp drops sharply to the glacier-carved cwm that now holds the Blaen Taf Fechan, which tumbles down to the Upper Neuadd Reservoir. To the west is Cwm Crew, a graceful, steep-sided valley that's typical of the region. It's this sense of space on either side that makes Rhiw yr Ysgyfarnog so dramatic.
