Although nature has noticeably reclaimed this space and the decay is clearly recognizable, the former Basso water park is not that old. It was opened in 1993, making it the very first swimming pool in the new federal states to be designated as a water park.

More were added in the immediate vicinity, so that the visitors from Leipzig and Wittenberg were distributed among the other baths. The number of visitors to the Basso fell so far that the operator had to file for bankruptcy just 20 years after it opened. In 2009 the bath was completely closed and has since been left to decay.
