Saint Anne, among other things the patroness of the Anna Church in Düren, is the mother of the Blessed Mother Mary - not attested in the biblical texts - but she is mentioned in apocryphal (i.e. not included in the canon of the Bible) writings, for example in the so-called "Proto-Gospel of James". There is no historically reliable knowledge about Anna's life, but there are numerous traditional stories that are summarized, for example, in the medieval "Legenda Aurea" by the Dominican monk Jacobus de Voragine. Her memorial day is - together with her husband Joachim - on July 26th.

On the site of today's Annakirche was already in the 8th century, a first chapel. In the following centuries new churches were built and expanded on the site. During the Second World War, the existing church was almost completely destroyed in air raids. It was decided to build a new building. Remaining fragments of the old church were added to the architecture of the building.

St. pilgrims receive a stamp for their pilgrim pass next to the church in the rectory.
