Here springs the Unstrut, a tributary of the Saale. From the walled source of the river gush 4.5 liters per second.

At the source there are several benches that invite you to relax and listen to the babbling waters of the Unstrut.

  • Unstrutradweg

The Unstrutquelle is one of the few sources of water that are very easy to reach by bike. The place at the source is very nicely developed, there are information boards and you can make a break before the start of the bike ride.

A very nice start (easy to reach by bike) for a top bike path.
The space around the source offers some seating to linger.

Around 575 the river Onestrudis was called, in the 7th century Unestrude, 994 Vnstruod. The name is derived from the Germanic strōdu, which is called Sumpfdickicht (Wikipedia).

    1) THIS is the source of unstrut! Without them the North Sea and consequently the Atlantic would have dried up long ago !!!!
    2) The Unstrut is the fate of the Thuringians. on June 21 In 531 the united armies of the Franks and the Saxons destroyed the Thuringian kingdom on this river.

The source is 368m above sea level.
The spring was first mentioned around 575 as "Onestrudis", the name being made up of "strut" (swamp) and the word syllable "un" (bad, foul, unpleasant smelling water). In the 7th century known as "Unestrude" and 994 called “Vnstruod”. After 192 km the Unstrut flows into the Saale near Naumburg.
