The church is mentioned in 1181 as part of the goods of the provostship of Saint Martin of Liège. Already in the 13th century, there is mention of necessary restoration work on the church building. In 1628, a ceiling is mentioned with the coats of arms of the de Hinnisdael family, from which it can be deduced that this is still the Romanesque nave with a flat, wooden ceiling; one of these paintings bore the date 1322.The church was restored under the pastorate of Jacques Moens (1749-1762). On the Ferraris map (1771-77), the church is depicted as a cruciform church on the current site, located in a fenced churchyard. The Romanesque tower, which was already mentioned in 1700 and 1712 as being in poor condition, and was restored by the municipality in the second half of the 18th century, was rebuilt in 1818, under the pastorate of A. Delvigne.A new church was built between 1843-44, designed by Lambert Jr. Jaminé (Hasselt), consecrated in 1850. The sacristy was probably built in 1878 by architect Denis (Sint-Truiden). inventaris.onroerenderfgoed.be/erfgoedobjecten/32200
