The Spichra hydroelectric power station was built in 1924 by Werrakraftwerke Aktiengesellschaft and officially opened in 1925. In one building (its architecture shows clear features of the beginning of modern industrial development), a single generating plant ran almost continuously for decades (even in the most difficult times).

Today, since its reactivation in December 1997, TEAG Thüringer Energie AG has owned the largest and most modern run-of-river power station on the Thuringian Werra, which is also a technical monument and can be visited. The most important components of the historically valuable machines and switching devices are still in the workshop today. The power station has a maximum output of 1300 kW. It delivers a planned electrical output of 5.5 million kWh per year. The system runs fully automatically and is remotely monitored from Bad Salzungen using modern communication technology.
