This beautiful church – popularly known as the Grote Kerk – was built around 1450 as a cruciform church and is considered the oldest building in Weesp. ‘In the church tower hangs a carillon of the Hemony brothers from Amsterdam. This 17th-century glockenspiel still plays every fifteen minutes.”

The listed De Grote or Sint-Laurenskerk is a late Gothic cruciform church that was built between 1429 and 1462 on the site of a Romanesque church. In 1577 the church passed into Protestant hands. Much of the church furniture was lost, but the Gothic choir screen from around 1525 was preserved.
At the top of the Romanesque tower, a remnant of the earlier church, is a carillon, cast in 1671 by the famous Amsterdam bell founder Pieter Hemony.
