Hiking
The fortress is the northernmost in the world and also the easternmost in Norway. The inner buildings are protected by a star-shaped earth wall, which is clad with rubble stones on the outside. Around the wall there is a ditch overgrown with grass. The facility was built to secure Norwegian sovereignty over Finnmark and the adjacent areas. At times the fortress was occupied by up to 60 men.
