    There are two parking areas on Goose Cove Rd. You will find a well marked trail down to the island. It leads through the magical fog forest, beautiful mossy openings and over a couple boulders. We took a quick dip in the ocean, even though is pretty cold water. The fog changed the atmosphere again and again. We even saw a seal.

      The Barred Island Preserve on Deer Isle includes maritime boreal cloud forests where the spruce trees are covered in lichen. The land is owned by The Nature Conservancy and managed by the Island Heritage Trust (IHT).

      The 1.5 km long hiking trail leads south to Barred Island, which can be reached via a sandbar at low tide.
