Place of the old Saint Hippolyte church and its presbytery, the basilica was to replace this building which had become dilapidated. However, at the beginning of the last century, the people of Thon rose up against this replacement. The church was thus classified as a historic monument in 1909. It still stands, alongside the basilica.
