The nature reserve "Altendorfer Berg" has a size of about 100 ha and is located east of the village Einbeck in the district Northeim. It is one of the largest and very species-rich semi-dry grasslands of Lower Saxony with interspersed Pioneer lawns, dry scrub and lime debris areas. The orchid-rich semi-dry lawn is covered with juniper. The dry grasslands are embedded in structurally rich woody stands. The Perlgras-Buchenwald on the plateau separates the Trockenrasenkomplex to the north.

The mosaic-like juxtaposition of near-natural potato grass and its bushy stages as well as a balanced relationship between gappy, short-haired, high-growing, woody and woody lots give this habitat its peculiarity and special beauty.

The extreme conditions (eg high temperature fluctuations) favor not only the rare orchids but also heat-dependent, cold-blooded animals, above all a great many insect groups and spiders as well as reptiles.

This semi-dry grassland has in the past mainly been the result of extensive grazing. Today he is grazed again by sheep or goat herds. So that the dry scrub does not get out of hand, also regularly so-called Entkusselungsmaßnahmen be carried out.

Beautiful meadows and pine trees characterize the former military training area today.
