The church is built in Romanesque style and is today considered to be the best preserved Romanesque cathedral in Denmark. As a result of repeated renovations, it is Denmark's only five-nave church and measures 63 meters in length and is 36 meters wide. The church also has three towers: Rytterspiret, which is located above the choir, Mariatårnet, which is the small tower, and Borgertårnet.
