In 1534, the women's monastery of St. Gallus was relocated from the Gallerberg to the Fischerhäuservorstadt. It had to make way for the expanded fortifications. This monastery has been documented since 1300, when its inhabitants adopted the Franciscan rule. The sisters of the Galler monastery secured their existence by operating a girls' school.
