In the middle of the cozy old town of Schwelm stands the Christuskirche. Framed by the small historic houses, their size does not stand out, but with 1,200 seats, the building is the second largest church in Westphalia. The listed building dates back to 1842, King Frederick William IV personally laid the foundation stone.

Already the predecessor church was for many centuries a milestone on the Westphalian Way of St. James and even today you will receive a stamp in your passport.

The Christ Church was built from 1842 to 1849 on the site of an older church. After being destroyed in March 1945 by a heavy air raid, it was rebuilt in 1952 and received its spiers in 1968, which can be seen from afar. In 1992 the church received a new organ from master builder Reinhart Tzschöckel. The three naves of the Christ Church and its large gallery offer space for more than a thousand parishioners.
