The old "watermill" in Lindewitt was mentioned as early as 1562. At that time Paul Rantzau acquired the "Hof Lindewitt" (Good Lindewitt) to which the watermill belonged. Rantzau (also Ranzow) is the name of a resident in Schleswig-Holstein uradligen family with the parent company Rantzau at Plön (Ost-Hostein). It first appears in records in 1226 with the knight Johann Ranzow.
