Up in the valley of Cwm Bychan you can find old pylons of a disused copper mine. During early industrialization, many copper mines and shale mines were established throughout Snowdonia, but today all are closed.

These are the remains of the cable car built in 1927 to carry copper ore down from the top of Cwm Bychan. Historical accounts indicate that the system was not a complete success, as it is said that the buckets often hit the ground and spilled their cargo. The remains of cable car entrances, tailings dumps and other buildings bear witness to the area's industrial past. The area also includes internationally rare heathland, found only in the western coastal areas of Europe. It provides habitat for numerous butterflies and birds.
