1958, the Pleiße was moved 1000 meters to the west. The original riverbed formed the boundary between the local areas Deutzen and Görnitz, the new riverbed runs through the center Deutzen. 1964/1965, the old town center of Deutzen was destroyed by the lignite mining Borna-West. Today's Deutzen was built west of the old town on the charred terrain of the 1960-1963 closed Deutzen mine (Force II). The area of Old Deutzen is today occupied by the reservoir Borna, popularly called Adria, which is fed with water of the Pleiße for the purpose of flood protection.
