An old legend tells of Woferl, who lived here as a hermit, apparently long ago.
If you ascend from the village via the church of the Calvary (signposted), you will pass the information boards that tell the exciting story of this person. Ascent about 250Hm. Have fun!

At the top there was a wooden chapel with the crucifixion group, next to it a small chapel with the painful mother. The Katzenwoferl loved to pray here. If he was alone, he spoke loudly and devoutly with Our Lady. He lived in a hermitage on a field in the forest near the Kohlstatt and occupied himself with basket weaving and collecting herbs. He is also said to have kept cats. The Leutgebhaus zu Ebensee was then a stop for travelers who drove to and from Gmunden across the lake. The wealthy landlady, the good Frau Koch, looked after her servants like a mother and sent her mug of soup to the poor. The Katzenwoferl was also allowed to get his food here. Frau Koch became seriously ill, and Bader shook his head alarmingly. Woferl prayed in the chapel for his benefactress to the painful mother and then went for his soup. In the kitchen he said to the troubled people: 'God bless you! Just don't hesitate, the woman will be healthy again! '
