The existing church would also have been destroyed by storm surges if government intervention in 1899 had not prevented this by fortifying the entire Halligufer to prevent further demolition. Inside the church there is a Renaissance altar from 1592, a pulpit from the late 18th century and a baptismal font from 1705. A remnant of an earlier church is the triumphal cross from around 1500.
