The church, which appears sober from the outside, has a mighty six-story porch tower. It was built by Protestants from 1580 onwards, but was handed over to the Jesuits in 1604. Most of the furnishings date from the time after a major fire in 1723.

The Cathedral and Parish Church of St. Petrus und Paulus, Klagenfurt Cathedral for short, in the municipality of Klagenfurt am Wörthersee, is the cathedral church of the Diocese of Gurk-Klagenfurt and one of the Roman Catholic city parish churches in the Deanery of Klagenfurt-Stadt. The church was built from 1581 as a Protestant house of worship and dedicated to the "Most Holy Trinity", making it the largest Protestant church built in Austria.[1] Closed in 1600 as part of the Counter Reformation, four years later it was handed over to the Jesuits.
