The Cathedral of Fort-de-France (Cathédrale Saint-Louis de Fort-de-France) is one in 1895 on the site of several previous buildings according to the plans of the architect Pierre-Henry Picq (1833-1911) in Fort-de-France, the chief lieu of the French overseas region Martinique, built and dedicated to Saint Louis church. It is since 1850 Episcopal Church, since 1967 the seat of the archdiocese of Saint-Pierre and Fort-de-France of the Roman Catholic Church. The church building is attributed to historicism. The current cathedral was built in 1891 by Parisian architect Pierre-Henri Picq on the site of the previous cathedral. The frame is made entirely of metal to withstand earthquakes but also following the techniques used by Gustave Eiffel in metropolitan France at the time.
