The Mount Imbiah battery began life as an infantry barrier in the 1880s, which consisted of 82 infantry soldiers and 19 gunners, who were responsible for the crew of their coastal gun. A hill is a type of fortress built outside a larger fortress for additional defense and protection.
When the First World War broke out in 1914, the battery was deployed with a 9.2-inch coastal gun. Together with the Siloso battery, the two batteries were organized to protect the western entrance to the port of Singapore. The battery remained in active service until the mid-1930s when it was replaced by the Fort Connaught battery at the southeastern end of the island of Singapore and its weapon was removed.
However, the battery remained occupied until the fall of Singapore during the Second World War in 1942 as a reserve magazine for ammunition.

This defensive post was built in the 1880s. In the coastal defense of Singapore, Imbiah and Siloso's defenses were responsible for securing western access to the port.
