Georg Ludwig Hartig
The German forest scientist. In 1797 he became a forest master in Dillenburg, where he set up numerous areas using his mass framework. In 1806 he went to Stuttgart and as chief forestry officer of the Baden-Württemberg forest administration
In 1811 he became State Councilor and head of the Prussian State Forest Administration in Berlin, where in 1815 he organized the forest administration of the newly created Rhine Province. In 1821 he set up a chair for forestry at the University of Berlin, which a few years later became the Eberswalde Forestry University. Major works among others: "Textbook for foresters and those who want to become one" (3 vols.).

Georg Ludwig Hartig, Prof. Dr. h.c., born in Gladenbach in 1764, died in Berlin in 1837, was a Prussian chief forester, fundamentally reformed Prussian forestry, was as important as Albrecht Daniel Thaer for Prussian agriculture.
In front of the Hartig monument there is a strong, beautifully grown beech tree with a rocky cliff in memory of the founder of sustainable forestry.
