Hartershausen is a district of Schlitz in the central Hessian Vogelsbergkreis, with approx. 250 inhabitants.
The oldest surviving mention of the village comes from a document from 871, which testifies that King Ludwig the German donated his property in Hartrateshus to Abbot Sigihart von Fulda.
The church probably dates from the 13th century. The organ dates from 1685. It was built by Johann Christoph Hart.
Hartershausen belonged to the Schlitz rule. Here, the Schlitzer ordinances from the 18th century, together with parts of the Fulda law, were considered to be particular law. Common law only applied insofar as these special regulations did not contain any provisions for a matter. This special right retained its validity even when it belonged to the Grand Duchy of Hesse in the 19th century. In judicial practice, however, the ordinances were only rarely applied. The particular law was replaced on January 1, 1900 by the civil code, which was uniformly applicable throughout the German Empire.

Hartershausen is embedded in the Fulda valley in the eastern part of the scenic Schlitzerland.
The special charm of the small town with its lovingly restored old half-timbered courtyards lies in its proximity to the center of Fulda (approx. 14 km).
The FuldaRadweg R1, which runs past the site, is very popular and offers recreational opportunities such as cycling, inline skating and hiking for those looking for relaxation.
The ruin of a small castle complex (Seeburg), popularly known as the "Old Wall", dates back to the 12th or 13th century. In the last century it was written about it that it was the only remaining Romanesque building in the "local area" next to the back tower in Schlitz.

In the Schützenhalle on the R1 cycle path near Hartershausen there are chilled drinks, a wonderful opportunity to take a break. And most recently also charging current for e-bikes.
