Nowadays the market place is predominantly a place of enjoyment and relaxation. The once-full-size cars that polluted the air have been banished. Tourists and Kulmbacher stroll past the Luitpold fountain, look towards the renovated clubhouse opposite, to the baroque town hall facade or up to Plassenburg. Others populate the colorful seating set up by the Italian ice cream parlor and adjoining restaurants. The market square was laid out in the 13th century after the town was expanded as a Franconian square. There is a lot of activity here today. Market stalls, cafes and shops and the twice-weekly farmers' market enliven the square. The square with its picturesque backdrop is also popular for festivals and events, such as B. the old town festival, the Christmas market, etc. On the market square is the Luitpold fountain, built in 1898
