Burg Renneberg, unsecured (!) Ruin, is one of the so-called "summit castles" built around 1250, was already designated as dilapidated in 1585. The castle ruins hiding behind trees, the surrounding area and the associated hunting rights have been owned by the Wirtgen family since 2005 (mechanical engineering company Wirtgen in Windhagen). Until 2007, the "Verein Burg Rennenberg" made countless restoration measures, but from 2007 the castle expires again, as the lease was not renewed by the owner and this itself is obviously not interested in a restoration. Rennenberg Castle was the ancestral seat of a Rhenish noble family, which was first mentioned in 1217 with Konrad von Rennenberg and his sons as witnesses in a document from Archbishop Engelbert I of Cologne. In 1585 the summit castle was already described as derelict. Source: Wikipedia
