    Staunton Harold reservoir

      August 11, 2021

Owned by Severn Trent Water, this 210 acre reservoir was built in 1964. It has a visitor centre and wildflower meadow. You can enjoy bird watching, dinghy and sailboarding with the Staunton Harold Sailing Club. Walks link with Calke Abbey.

There are many points around the reservoir where you can park and walk and enjoy the views. If you visit the site in summer, it is well worth taking a short walk from the visitor centre to the wildflower meadow. Then you could follow the story of water in the visitor centre exhibition.

The Tower Windmill by the car park was let by the Melbourne estate until it fell into disrepair in 1884.
