and went for a hike.

Kington to Lyonshall

Anyone else struggling with the komoot system update ? Downloaded the last 2 walks to use offline as usual, but komoot constantly crashes, bloody frustrating 😑 The first part of the walk to the castle and church were fine, after this most of the remaining walk was through mud, including an area where the gate was completely under water and impassable, we had quite a walk to cross a double barbed wire fence, several of the fields had been ploughed so no visible footpath and one was across a electrified fence containing skittish horses

Mine crashes at the start, then I have to reset the app. It also pauses itself often then relies on me to restart it. But the most frustrating thing is the misordering of photos. I've told them a few times but they fail to resolve it. Now I've got the maps, this is my go to Walking app, otherwise I'd consider changing.

On a very cold but the first dry day of 2026 we walked from the car park on the gospel pass a steep climb up to the trig point on Hay Bluff, with amazing 360 views, then along Offas dyke to Twyn Llech which at 703m is the highest point on the whole of the Offas Dyke route, then return to the car park again using a much steadier decent.

Cabin fever was setting in as it's rained nearly constantly for a month!!, we needed to find a winter walk without walking on roads or muddy fields, and Shobdon Hill fitted the bill nicely, a mixture of hard surfaces and fairly dry forest routes due to the amount of evergreens still taking up water. Free parking and a fresh egg stand . We visited the fascinating church in Shobdon beforehand, known as the wedding cake church due to it's lovely interior.
