The Raeren parish church of St. Nicholas is considered one of the most beautiful churches in the Eupen region. It was built in Blaubruchstein at the beginning of the 18th century. The windows of the three-aisled hall church have Romanesque round arches, while the interior is baroque.
The floor of the church chancel consists of polished and therefore almost black-looking bluestone, while the same, unpolished bluestone, which appears pale gray, was used in the construction of the columns.

Saint Nicholas, Bishop of Myra, to whom the church in Raeren is dedicated, is – along with Saint Martin – one of the most popular saints of all. Almost every child in Germany - and far beyond - should know his commemoration day, December 6th.
On the eve of this day, the children used to put their shoes or boots in front of the door - which of course had to be cleaned with great care - so that they could be filled with gifts by St. Nicholas during the night. In more agricultural areas, it was also customary for the children to provide a small amount of food for the donkey, St. Nicholas' riding animal (according to another tradition, this was a white horse).

From 1668, ecclesiastical registers of this parish are available. It is a three-aisled church with a semi-built-in tower, which was rebuilt in 1720-1723 after a design by Laurenz Mefferdatis. In 1729 the church was stuccoed and in 1753 a sacristy was added. In 1847 the church was enlarged by two bays and a tower was added. The architect was Pesch. The church is built in natural stone blocks.
The church is surrounded by a cemetery, with several 18th-century grave crosses built into the wall.
