The St. Nikolai Church is one of the few surviving medieval churches in Berlin and the most important building in Spandau's old town. The three-nave Gothic hall church was built in the 14th century and is located directly on Reformation Square.

In 1539, Elector Joachim II took communion there according to Lutheran teachings with bread and wine. The country thus became Protestant and since then the church has been considered the Reformation church for Berlin-Brandenburg.
