A man named Swartelbroeke got lost on the heath in 1826 and was dying of thirst. He prayed to the Blessed Mother and immediately a spring gushed out at his feet. As a thank you, he erected a pole with a statue of Mary, which has since been called "Onze Lieve Vrouwe aan de Staak" or "Onze Lieve Vrouwe bij 't Fonteintje". A chapel was built, which became the destination of pilgrimages. Around 1900 there was also a small procession park with a few places of worship, including an artificial rock with a holy grave.

Around "het Kapelleke", i.e. "the little chapel", a recreation area called "'t Fonteintje" has developed. Here you will find an observation tower where you can get an overview of the area with playgrounds and mini golf courses.
