The 118 meter high "Königsstuhl" is part of the large Stubbenkammer, including the chalk cliff formation directly adjacent to the north and the gorge in between.
There are a number of legends surrounding the naming of the "Königsstuhl".
The name "Königsstuhl" was probably used for this chalk cliff formation as early as the 16th century.
The Stubbenkammer is the name given to the immediate surroundings of the prominent chalk cliff "Königsstuhl" in the Jasmund National Park on the island of Rügen. A distinction is made between large and small Stubbenkammer.
The Stubbenkammer forms with the few buildings, a district of the city of Sassnitz.

A new viewing platform is being built due to the ever-shrinking rock
