In 2013, the hut, together with the New Prague Hut, was taken over by the German Alpine Club itself, as the financial effort to maintain and run both huts economically exceeded the capabilities of a section.

To preserve it, the hut was restored to its original state from 2017 to 2019 based on old plans and converted into the highest museum in Austria, which was ceremoniously inaugurated on July 19, 2019 by DAV Vice President Roland Stierle, among others. A glass wall in the entrance area allows a view of the hut, which is furnished historically. The museum is open from mid-June to mid-September.

At the same time, the hut serves as simple accommodation and material storage for research purposes of the Hohe Tauern National Park. A weather station has been set up at the hut - this records a webcam image with a view of the Schlatenkees and the Großvenediger twice a day.
