The Defreggerhaus, at 2,962 meters, is the highest hut in the southern Venediger group. On nice weekends, the hut is naturally extremely crowded. A three-hour climb from the hut to the Venediger summit makes the Defreggerhaus a popular starting point for a summit climb: virgentaler-huetten.at/venediger-hoehenweg/defreggerhaus.

Hiking

It is best to take two days for the high-altitude tour of the Großvenediger. If you choose the south-facing ascent from East Tyrol, you can spend the night at the Defreggerhaus, which is at an altitude of almost 3,000 meters. Not too far from the Defreggerhaus is the glacier that you have to climb up to the summit of the Großvenediger. On the glacier, you should definitely rope up and ideally go with a mountain guide.

Hiking

Take the Hüttentaxi from the Prägraten car park to the Johannishütte - that saves you an estimated 1.2 hour walk. Very nice ascent from the Johannishütte (2.5 - 3 hours). The Defreggerhaus is the starting point for a Großvenediger ascent.
