The Alt Garge power plant (official name: Ost-Hannover power plant) is a former coal-fired power plant of the Hamburg Electricity Works (HEW) on the Elbe east of the town of Alt Garge, which today belongs to Bleckede, in north-eastern Lower Saxony. The power plant was built during the Second World War using numerous forced laborers who were housed in the Alt Garge subcamp from 1944, but only went into operation after the end of the war (1946). In 1974 it was shut down for economic reasons and demolished in 1987/88 except for small remains.Source and further detailed information:de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kraftwerk_Alt_Garge
