The special thing about Hirzbach is the thousand-year-old chapel. From 1254 until its final dissolution, the little church was in the possession of the Antonite Order, a hospital and mendicant order that had a monastery in neighboring Roßdorf until 1444. Beginning with the Reformation, the chapel was used less and less for worship and from 1840 only as a barn and potato store. From 1990 onwards it was saved from final ruin by the Hirzbacher Kapelle Friends' Association. Since then, the renovated Hirzbach Chapel has been a small regional cultural center.
